The International Museum Day will also take place in South Tyrol on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The aim of International Museum Day is to draw attention to the thematic diversity of museums worldwide. With their diverse offerings and innovative ideas, museums make a great contribution to our cultural and social life. The event is organized annually by the International Council of Museums ICOM worldwide. The motto proclaimed by Icom - International Council of Museums for the 2023 edition is: "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing".

In the Lumen Museum 4 floors are dedicated to the photography of the mountains. The museum makes it possible to experience the history of mountain photography from its beginnings to the present day and the art of mountain photographers from all over the world. Lumen shows historical photographs and digital innovations, exciting temporary and special exhibitions as well as spectacular stagings.
Alpine history is told in the distinctive museum building by Zaha Hadid. It is about traditional alpinism, which and the mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner has decisively shaped. The rock and the life of mountaineers are the central themes of the Messner Mountain Museum, illustrated by unique collections, pictures and objects that Reinhold Messner collected during his life as a frontiersman.
