The KronplatzKing features two courses:
the Prince Classic, covering 49 km with 2,250 metres of elevation gain, and the King Marathon, covering 64 km with 3,150 metres of elevation gain.
Unlike the Prince Classic, the King Marathon includes three additional variants, increasing the total distance by 15 km and the positive elevation gain by approximately 900 metres.
The race starts in San Vigilio, near the church. After two kilometres on paved road, the route turns right and climbs along a forest road towards the Rit Pass. Near the pass summit, the two courses split: the Prince Classic turns right towards Piz de Plaies, while the King Marathon continues over the pass and descends into the municipality of La Valle, reaching the hamlets of Biei Rung. This section offers spectacular views of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies and Puez-Odle nature parks. This is followed by a relatively short but very demanding climb, with gradients of up to 20%, towards Forcela de Cians, where the route rejoins the Prince Classic course and also reaches Piz de Plaies.
Both courses then follow the Piz de Plaies freeride descent: a downhill section of approximately 3.5 km featuring wide berms, rollers, crests and fun toboggan-style passages.
Once back in San Vigilio, both routes continue along the valley floor towards Tamersc/Pederü. This varied section alternates between gravel roads, trails and singletracks, with a gently uphill approach including a few short technical sections, and an almost entirely downhill return.
The next challenge is the long climb to Kronplatz. For the Prince Classic, this ascent is around 13 km with 1,100 metres of elevation gain. For the King Marathon, it is approximately 2.5 km longer and 250 metres more demanding. Here, the King Marathon features its second variant: starting in Riffa, the route turns right and follows the first two kilometres of the road towards Fojedöra, then descends on a gravel path before rejoining the Classic route and climbing up to the summit of Kronplatz.
While the Prince Classic finishes at the summit of Kronplatz, the King Marathon turns left near the finish area, crosses the ridge and descends along the Furcia Trail freeride route to the Bivacco Hut. Athletes will only use the easiest variant of the descent, with no additional longer or more technical options.
Finally, the course includes the last 3 km climb – already ridden earlier in the race – back up to the summit of Kronplatz.
